The Reach Beyond Behaviour Therapy (RBBT) Inc. team had the pleasure to work with Senaca College students during their student placement positions from January – April 2024. Robin and Alice have shown dedication and commitment in supporting the team of Clinical Technicians and the clients. Thank to you both for an outstanding job during your time at the organization. On behalf of the RBBT Inc. Team, we wish you best of luck!

I believe I not only learned about specific technical skills, but also, the most important one, I learned how to be confident and comfortable while doing treatments to kids. This happened in the last few times of the treatments, that I “suddenly” became much better at talking and interacting with kids. To make them feel comfortable, I should feel comfortable first. As I said before, I finally learned to “open myself”. While working with the staff, I think being focused was very important. Definitely, the pace of the treatments were very fast, and there was great information during every session. The staff are all professional and friendly, and I need to put my concentration on the learning, to make the outcome more efficient. In class learning, for example, “token economy”, was  used in my practical placement. It was not a difficult concept, but if I did not learn about token economy in class, I may not know what the therapists were doing. It has been a great experience in the placement, and thanks everyone!

Working at Reach Beyond Behaviour Therapy Inc. has offered an enriching and
profound journey, serving as a bridge between theoretical knowledge and its practical
application in real-world settings. Each day, in collaboration with the dedicated
clinical technicians, I have had the privilege to directly apply classroom-learned theories to
our therapy sessions. This hands-on approach allowed me to witness the transformative
power of ABA’s evidence-based practices firsthand. The team at Reach Beyond—including clinical technicians, my supervisor, and directors—has been instrumental in my professional growth. They provide weekly constructive feedback, advice, and performance reviews, introducing me to techniques and skills not covered in my academic curriculum. These include effectively providing reinforcement, understanding comprehensive programs, capturing client’s attention, adjusting strategies based on behavior observations, managing challenging behaviors, and respecting each client’s autonomy and self-determination. Moreover, this experience has deepened my understanding of autism spectrum disorders, teaching me to adapt strategies that foster communication and independence among our clients. Witnessing the children’s small victories and milestones, such as mastering a new skill, expressing a need or desire for the first time, or engaging in social interaction, has filled me with a sense of accomplishment and joy. The placement has been a continuous learning journey, not just for the children but also for me. It has been an emotional ride, marked by both challenges and joy, yet the unwavering support from my colleagues has kept me motivated. The insights gained from this experience have transformed me into a more compassionate, skilled, and adaptive practitioner, ready to confidently face new challenges with an open heart.
