My college placement at Reach Beyond Behaviour Therapy has been an incredibly rewarding and unforgettable one. A couple years ago, I discovered ABA and knew it was something I was interested in. I’ve always loved working with kids, and one of the sentiments I grew up believing is that making a positive impact on other people is the most fulfilling experience you can have. And with ABA, there is truly nothing more fulfilling than seeing clients gain new skills with each session, and to watch them improve every week.

Going through schooling for the field was a very interesting experience, but nothing compared to actually getting the opportunity to work in the clinic with the clients and implement the theory that was taught in the classroom into a real-life situation. The team at RBBT was so supportive and kind and were always willing to help me as I found my footing in the workplace. They helped to slowly build my confidence up by gradually increasing my independent tasks, which I’m incredibly grateful for, as I was initially unsure if I could manage running sessions as well as the Technicians at RBBT do. However, they helped me understand that with time and patience I can do it too. I was able to see and do things I hadn’t had a chance to before, like data collection and assisting with running programs, the kind of hands-on learning that you can’t get out of a classroom environment.

It was so amazing to see the clients come into the clinic, excited to spend their time with technicians, and to see their happiness when they reach new milestones. My time at RBBT has given me a newfound appreciation for all the little things; how every small thing can contribute to much bigger successes down the road, and how no achievement is too minor. It’s incredibly rewarding to see this put into action, and to see the smiles on clients’ faces when they gain more and more confidence in their skills. My time at RBBT has taught me so much I wouldn’t have known otherwise, and I know that this is an experience I’ll keep with me for a long time.
