Reach Beyond Behaviour Therapy (RBBT) Inc. participated at the Seneca College Career Fair on April 13, 2023. In addition to being very hands on in overseeing applied behaviour analytic services, I do a great deal of work behind the scenes as well. The career fair at Seneca gave me the opportunity to learn about internships, degree programs, student placements and nearby service providers.

Providing and disseminating information to the students, professors and other service providers about the opportunities and services available at RBBT Inc. allows community members, including families, youth and any person who may benefit from this knowledge to connect and take advantage of services available close to their home.

Here are some of my tips on how to prepare for your first career fair booth:

 Dress your booth!

This does not mean you need to bring a powerpoint presentation with perfectly timed slides. Try to have a tablecloth that has your company logo on it. You can also display a roll up banner with information in regards to your organization with a QR code to help others quickly access your company website.

Bring paper copies of pre-interview questionnaires

This allows any applicants to quickly answer some questions that might be considered requirements for a specific position. This method will not only provide an efficient way to determine appropriate candidates but allows the interviewer to filter resumes on the spot!

 Bring Company Brochures

Place some brochures or flyers at the table. This allows for potential candidates to get an understanding of your company’s mission, vision and values. It created an opportunity for any follow-up conversations and inquiry about the services being offered at the organization.

Bring a paper copy of the job posting(s)

Applicants will ask about any student placements or internship positions that may be available at the organization. Having one paper copy of the job posting will allow for any information in regards to qualifications, requirements, and job description. The job posting can be placed in a sheet protector and therefore remain at the booth for others to look at or take pictures of the job posting, if needed. Multiple copies of the job posting is not required.

 Bring edible goodies and giveaways!

Who does not like candies or chocolates? Provide some chocolates and/or candies in a small bowl at the table. This allows for an increase in traffic to your booth, hence an increase in potential applicants. If your company has pens, pencils or water bottles for give away, feel free to add it to your collection!
